Originally founded in 1926, Bodegas Muriel was revitalized in 1986 by Julian Murua when he discovered his parents’ original wine cellar. These classic wines dating back to 1926, revealed Bodegas Muriel’s traditional history and stylistic inclinations.
This allowed Julian to refocus the winery’s production to reflect this heritage. Bodegas Muriel’s wines are laboriously produced in homage to these classic early 20th century wines from the Rioja Alavesa DOC.
Located next to the town of Elciego, the winery is in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa region, situated closely to the River Mayor.
It is here that Bodegas Muriel produces wines with a sense of place that is classic Rioja while maintaining a quality that is sure to please.
